Children stop traffic for play in Croydon

CROYDON: Children and their parents stopped traffic this weekend as road closures made space for youngsters to play.

Cars were banned from Love Lane, in Woodside, for three hours on Sunday at the launch of a scheme which saw youngsters ride bikes and scooters, play hop-scotch, skip and make chalk works of art in their street.

The scheme, which is council backed and supported by charity London Play, enables residents to ask the council's permission to close their road for a period of time each month.

The Love Lane children used some of their time to plant bulbs in the shape of a heart on a grassy area in the road, and residents were able to get out talk to each other.
