Joint Area Review (JAR) focus on play

The Joint Area Review is the OFSTED inspection of all Children's Services in each borough. Make sure there is a positive result for play in your local authority by spreading the word about the importance of local children's play.

Both Rachael Murray, previous director of Play Association Tower Hamlets, and Garry Martin, Play Manager Southwark Council, have spoken through the pages of London Play News about the value of talking up the importance of children's play in the mainstream of Children's Services, the Primary Care Trust and Local Strategic Partnership. This will involve a lot of meetings in your Town Hall with "the suits", it may take a long time to bear any fruit, but their, and others, experience is that once play is acknowledged as important in these forums, then funding and recognition for the importance of play services for children will follow.
