Partners for Play

Partners for Play aims to ensure that every London borough will develop an effective and dynamic play policy, and that policies will be created with local communities including children and young people.

The project focuses on giving children and young people in deprived communities better access to play opportunities - essential for children's health and well-being. Many of the project's outcomes will be achieved by working in partnership with a wide range of London organisations, to reach out to traditionally excluded groups.

Play associations and other play providers will gain from sharing best practice - especially in promoting diversity and inclusion. Through Partners for Play the effectiveness, capacity and sustainability of London's play sector will be enhanced, with learning and good practice disseminated in London and beyond.

This London Play project has been successful in bringing together representatives from two thirds of London boroughs to discuss opportunities and challenges. Our initial series of "power breakfasts" held in central London locations have evolved into "power brunches" with speakers invited to give short presentations.

The project was funded by Big Lottery Fund, London Regional Grants Programme, from 2005 - 2008.

London Play also publishes briefing papers on a range of issues affecting children's play in London.
