Lifetime in Play in London Award 2008

Award ceremony 2008

London Play's Lifetime in Play in London Award celebrates the achievements of playworkers in the capital.

London honoured Bob Hughes with London Play's 2008 Lifetime in Play in London Award on 30 March 2008 as part of the charity's 10th anniversary celebrations at the Museum of London.

He was selected by an Independent Panel to receive this Award, which attracts nominations from all over the UK but honours someone who has made a significant contribution to children's play in the capital.

Melian Mansfield, Chair of London Play:
"We are really delighted that Bob Hughes is to receive the London Play Lifetime in Play Award for 2008. He is a true legend in the world of play. His work is so well known and has affected so many people's lives - children and adults - and he hugely deserves this very important recognition.

From adventure playgrounds to identifying 'play types', Bob's experience, knowledge and understanding of children's play is second to none. We congratulate him and look forward to celebrating with him at our tenth anniversary PlayFest on 30 March 2008."

Bob Hughes:
"I am both amazed and delighted to be offered London Play's  Lifetime in Play Award, which I accept with great pleasure. I feel very honoured to have been chosen for the award, especially in a city in which there has been such an outstanding and long history of making provision for children and fighting for the right of children to play.

"I can promise the Play field in London that I will continue to make what contribution I can to ensuring that London's children have increasing access to relevant, interesting and useful, as well as fun play experiences during those vital years of childhood and beyond."
