Governance

London Play is governed by a board of trustees, elected at the annual general meeting.

Minorities are currently under-represented in our board of trustees and therefore we particularly welcome applications from those sections of the community.

London Play's trustee induction pack was commended by the Charity Commission as an example of good practice. London Play also supports playgrounds in the voluntary sector to recruit volunteer trustees, also known as management committee members.

Chair of Trustees - Melian Mansfield

Melian Mansfield has been Chair of London Play's trustees since 2001.

Melian has a wide range of experience in all sectors of education including early years, primary and secondary. She works in schools and local authorities across London, training head teachers, governors, teachers and parents. She has also been involved in organising numerous conferences and seminars and in evaluating projects.

Melian's particular areas of expertise are working with parents, special educational needs, behaviour issues, children's rights, developing partnerships, team building, the roles and responsibilities of governors, and school development planning. Melian has written two books, entitled Home and School Links : Practice Makes Perfect and A Parent's Guide to Special Needs.

Formerly a teacher, she is a parent of five children and governor of two primary schools. She is also Chair of the Campaign for State Education, Chair of Haringey Under 5's Play and Childcare Forum and Vice Chair of the Early Childhood Forum at the National Children's Bureau.
